Jim Thompson Thai House

Bangkok

Entertainment Attractions

Thailand is famous for its silk, and if you want to see an inspiring example of the silk industry, a visit to The Jim Thompson Thai House is a must. The Jim Thompson house was home to Jim Thompson, an American who founded the world famous Thai Silk Company. Known as the 'Legendary American of Thailand', he moved to Bangkok in the 1940s and soon managed to rebuild Thailand's silk industry, achieving worldwide recognition for his achievements. He was awarded a decoration known as the Order of the White Elephant, for foreigners who have shown exceptional service to Thailand.

After living at the house for 25 years, he sadly disappeared while on holiday in Cameroon in 1967 and was never found.

These days, tourists can visit the charming home of this legendary character, a home where grand dinner parties with VIP guests were once held. Located in the centre of the city, the house is guaranteed to be an interesting and informative lesson in Thai history. Guided tours are compulsory.
