Lumpinee Boxing Stadium

Bangkok

Entertainment

Established in 1956, Lumpinee Boxing Stadium is the place to see Muay Thai, or Thai kickboxing, in Bangkok. Muay Thai is as much a part of Thai culture as its temples or cuisine. The fighters use their entire body during a match, which is why Muay Thai is sometimes called 'The Art of Eight Limbs'. All surfaces of the body can be targets, and all body parts, except the head, can be used for striking.

Every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, the stadium fills with both tourists and locals eager to see the exciting Muay Thai match. Located in Royal Thai Army Sports Center Ramintra, the stadium is run by the Royal Thai Army, which collects all proceeds from the fights. It is also one of the few places in Thailand where gambling is permitted, with spectators placing bets on the second level of the stadium.
