Wat Pho or Temple of the Reclining Buddha

Bangkok

Temples & Parks

Wat Pho or Temple of the Reclining Buddha is one of the oldest and largest temples in Bangkok. It features over 1000 Buddha images and one the largest, the Reclining Buddha. The temple is located just across the river from neighbouring Wat Arun.

The temple is claimed to be the birthplace of the now world renowned traditional Thai massage. As you view the temple there are stalls set up where you can enjoy one of these massages from the hands of a well trained expert.

Although the temple itself is a sight to behold with examples of majestic architecture, intricate designs and beautiful paintings everywhere you look, the centre piece of this temple is undoubtedly the Reclining Buddha. At over 150 feet in length it is one of the largest single images of Buddha in the world.

But make sure you get to the temple early if you want to get ahead of the crowd and get a perfect picture of the Buddha.
